Existing laws and regulations in Turkey fail to adequately protect animals. Violence against animals, particularly stray animals, is on the rise due to the absence of an animal rights law long demanded by animal lovers. Both mainstream and social media frequently reflect this growing violence. Almost every day, reports of rape, torture, abuse, and mistreatment of animals appear across different media channels. Witnessing such crimes can have various social repercussions.

Across the country, many volunteers dedicate themselves to feeding, caring for, and finding solutions to the problems faced by stray animals. Van is no exception to this situation. More than 20,000 stray dogs live in Van, and the efforts of the municipality are insufficient, which further contributes to the increasing number of stray animals.

For many years, the photographer has been involved in addressing the feeding, shelter, and health issues of stray animals. In this process, he seeks solutions in his city, Van, by collaborating with NGOs, state institutions, and local authorities. Each dog in this project is one that the photographer has personally cared for and fed regularly. As a result, he presents these dogs not as objects of fear or automatons, as they are often perceived by society, but as sentient beings—suffering, enjoying, and full of character—trapped within human life.
